Confirmed Case of COVID-19—Off-Campus Student

The college has been notified that an online-only student who has been living off-campus has tested positive for COVID-19.

The results of the initial contact tracing work has shown that the last time the student was on campus was BEFORE the exposure that led to the student’s infection. We are confident that there is no risk to the campus as a result of this particular case. The student lives off-campus and has been instructed to isolate for the appropriate amount of time based on health guidelines.

In accordance with privacy requirements and College policy, we will not release any additional identifying information about this person. The student’s professors have been notified.

You are encouraged to remain vigilant in protecting your health and the health of others. Students who are not feeling well and have COVID-19 symptoms including fever or signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness (e.g. cough or shortness of breath) or who test positive should contact the Health Center at 828-771-2053 (please leave a message if no one answers). Employees who believe they may have COVID-19 or test positive should contact Human Resources to understand your leave options.

Please know that, in partnership with the Buncombe County Department of Health and Human Services, we will provide updates regarding additional positive cases among members of our campus community. Please see here our dashboard showing data on the numbers of people in our community who are quarantined or isolating, awaiting COVID test results, the number of confirmed positives and negatives, as well as the number of students in quarantine at Blue Ridge Assembly. This is available on the WWC website and is updated daily.
