Warren Wilson class helps reintroduce tangerine darter to Swannanoa River

 

Dr. Liesl Erb's Introduction to Conservation Biology course worked with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission to reintroduce the tangerine darter into the Swannanoa River.

 

Tangerine darters are important to the ecosystem because they help freshwater mussels, which in turn filter the water and keep the river clean. Without tangerine darters, the mussels cannot reproduce.

 

Just one example of how Warren Wilson students are making a tangible impact on the environment!
