Black History Month Events

Beloved WWC,

Today is the first of February and serves also as the first day of Black History Month in the United States. What first started out over 100 years ago (1915) as a week devoted to learning and teaching about the African American experience in a few cities has now become a national heritage month where we not only study, but also celebrate the countless contributions of people of African heritage to the United States and across the world. We shout out Carter G. Woodson and we shout out all of the members of what has become the Association for the Study of African American Life and History for lending their time and energy to build the early foundation of Black History Month.

For this entire month the Office of Institutional Excellence and various offices and departments across our campus will feature programming specifically devoted to creating awareness about the Black experience in honor of Black History Month 2024 (#BHMWWC24). We ask that you attend and participate in as many events as possible then share what you've learned. Happy learning! Happy Black History Month 2024!

All the best,
M. Z. Yehudah
