Richard Hettrick Scholarship

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate, first-time applicants and currently enrolled students up to their junior year who have a demonstrated financial need. Each scholarship shall be awarded for one academic year and may be renewed at the discretion of the committee provided the recipient re-applies for the scholarship and continues to meet the conditions of eligibility and funds are available.

Scholarship Details: The Hettrick family honors Rev. Richard “Dick” Hettrick’s life of service and support of the mission of Warren Wilson College, who volunteered his service to the College’s Parent Council and the Presbyterian Church Relations Council and Board of Visitors. His wife and family wish to honor his life of service and his support of the mission of Warren Wilson College by establishing the Richard Hettrick Scholarship for students with financial need. Applicants for the scholarship are asked to write a short essay reflecting on how their continued education might enable them to meet the community needs they will encounter as they seek to answer their own life’s calling

Selection Procedure: Recipients of this scholarship shall be selected by committee. Applicants are encouraged to read the brief biographical sketch of Richard Hettrick (noted in the application form) in whose honor this scholarship was created. The criterion for selection is based on the essay written by the applicant as reviewed by the selection committee. The selection process will take place each spring with the award/s to be disbursed the following fall semester.

Black Leadership Excellence Scholarship

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate, full-time, self-identified Black students, with preference given to students who demonstrate leadership qualities.

Scholarship Details: Initiated by the Warren Wilson College Black Student Union, the Board of Trustees approved the creation of this scholarship from the general endowment in Fall 2020. This endowed fund was created in memory of George Floyd and the work racial justice organizers did in the wake of his murder. It recognizes students who are leading the charge to change our College—and greater community—to better meet our social justice mission.

Selection Procedure: Nominate yourself or a fellow student if you/they identify as Black, stand out in leadership abilities, and meaningfully contribute to racial justice work at WWC and beyond. Recipients of this scholarship shall be selected by committee. The selection process will take place each spring with the award/s to be disbursed the following fall semester.
